Agreements on laboratory construction plan, office space, supporting facilities, operation and maintenance, etc. of  Space Weather Science Laboratory in South America of CAS of CAS which is constructed by the CAS, NSSC and INPE have been reached, the details are under further communication and implementation, and the construction will be started in 2014.

The Space Weather Science Laboratory in South America of CAS, located in Brazil, mainly developing the joint observation and data collection of the ”ground-based comprehensive monitoring meridian chain of space environment” in the Western Hemisphere and the research on the near earth space environment at low latitude regions in both East and West Hemispheres, is one of the most important symbols in the implementation of the International Meridian Circle Program which is based on the Meridian Project.

As one of the five overseas scientific and educational institutions constructed by CAS in the “Expanded Project of Education Cooperation in Scientific Developing Countries”, the Laboratory can realize the joint monitoring of the ground-based space weather in the conjugated region of East and West Hemispheres and North and South Hemispheres, effectively solve the problem of the lack of global monitoring data due of territory limit, multiply scientific outputs of the Meridian Project and contribute to expanding and deepening cooperation of science and technology with developing countries after the completion of construction.
